about us
Muddy River Rollers (MRR) was founded in May 2010 by Carole Maillet (aka Burn’N’ Rub’Her). She held a “Meet & Greet” and first practice at the Moncton Boy’s and Girl’s club to see if there would be any interest. There was a great turn out and it opened the doors for an overwhelming desire for alternative sport here in Moncton. Many women have been interested in Roller Derby for a long time, especially since it’s re-popularization in the last 5 to 10 years. Enter Trevor “Jesus Take the Wheels” Goodwin a couple of weeks later with some coaching interest and testosterone to balance out some hormones, and the wheels were literally in motion. Women everywhere dusted off their old rollerblades, 1970’s roller skates or borrowed their kid’s skate sneaks until they could order proper roller derby skates and gear off the internet.
It has become MRR’s mission to provide an outlet that inspires a healthy, competitive spirit, build self-confidence and blow off daily stress! We pride ourselves on providing a safe, yet thrilling avenue for women of all shapes, sizes, ages and athletic ability to unite through alternative sport. Our goal is to broaden Moncton’s horizons by bringing positive attention to the exciting sport of Roller Derby. We believe in a “for the skaters, by the skaters” mentality, and are working together to become the #1 east coast roller derby league. We want to bring positive exposure to the city of Moncton as well as help bring awareness to some of the city’s top causes. The Muddy River Rollers are an all female Flat Track Roller Derby league based out of Moncton, New Brunswick. Our league is run by busy moms, students and all-round devoted ladies elected to represent us and address all issues that come with running a league. We are proud to be a self-taught, self-run, non-profit organization, and are working hard to become a part of the WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association). We encourage all forms of participation in our league. Men can also participate through coaching or refereeing, and we are always open for donations to our ever growing league. |
